The announcement, which came after the first lady's first public solo event, was followed by another statement from her senior adviser, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, affirming the first lady's devotion to sustain the gardens.
In announcing the reopening of the White House visitors' office, Mrs. Trump said she is "committed to the restoration and preservation of our nation's most recognizable landmark".
Requests for the self-guided tours must be submitted to members of Congress. President Trump reportedly has done some minor remodeling since the January 20 Inauguration Day.
"Previous administrations have been quick to reopen the White House doors to the public, even doing so the day after the Inauguration". Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who tweeted about it Sunday.
The first lady has hired Lindsay Reynolds, former associate director of the visitors office under President George W. Bush, as her chief of staff. Reynolds has promised to make tours a priority, but the White House has yet to hire someone to head up the visitors department.
The self-guided tours are available from 7:30 a.m.to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.to 1:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, excluding federal holidays or unless otherwise noted, according to the release.
Visitors are encouraged to submit requests as early as possible. Phones and compact still cameras with a lens no longer than 3 inches are allowed.
