Georges St-Pierre Reportedly Agrees To UFC Return

Former UFC welterweight king Georges St-Pierre's Octagon return is almost complete according to a report from MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani.

According to a report from MMA Fighting, multiple sources have relayed that St-Pierre and the UFC have agreed to terms and are close to finalizing a new, multi-fight contract.

St-Pierre's last Octagon outing saw him take home a controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks in the main event of UFC 167 back in 2013, marking his ninth consecutive title defense before subsequently announcing his retirement. More recently, White has confirmed that they've been in talks with St-Pierre.

St. Pierre's return would be a huge boost for the UFC's new owners, as the company is now short on mainstream stars in the absence of both Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey.

It has been rumored that he would like to fight current middleweight champion Michael Bisping while the Canadian-born fighter has also been linked to lightweight champion Conor McGregor along the way.

Jon Jones, the 29-year-old light heavyweight with a 22-1 record and widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter, should be a huge draw for the UFC if it wasn't for his trouble outside the cage.

Members of St-Pierre's camp haven't been shy to discuss his desire to return to action. "A return in the third quarter of 2017 is now being targeted". "So the deal is nearly done and he wants to fight me".

GSP is one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time.

The return of the popular ex-champion will come at a time where the UFC needs big names for 2017. Skeptics, including both St-Pierre and White, viewed St-Pierre's issues with the UFC's anti-doping policy, as well as its Reebok uniform deal, among other differences, as massive stumbling blocks preventing his return.

After more than three years, Georges St-Pierre might step into the Octagon again. "He is retired. He will not fight again".

With so much going on with McGregor right now, it's hard to see this fight being made immediately, but I would say that it's a very real possibility in the future if the stars align in the way that the UFC are undoubtedly wishing them to.
