Trump confirms phone conversation with Buhari

[ Masterweb Reports ] - The President of United States, Donald Trump at 9:45 am in Washington, D.C., US (2:45 pm in London) called President Muhammdu Buhari of Nigeria to wish him Happy Africa Day.

Abuja - The Presidency has disclosed what US President Donald Trump discussed with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday during a telephone conversation.

Trump, who spoke with Egypt's president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi back in November, has shown little to no interest in Africa as a candidate over the past year or in the first few weeks of his presidency till now.

The South African President, Jacob Zuma, last week said that his country will continue to support Palestine, as he delivered his state of the nation address at the parliament.

New US President Donald Trump loves the phone and worked it again yesterday on his "Sub Saharan Africa Day".

This is the first time the two leaders are communicating directly since Mr. Trump's inauguration as the 45th president of the United States. Nigerian time (about 2.45 p.m. SA time). Both were also on very good terms with the erstwhile administration of Barack Obama.

Trump commended Buhari's progress in the fight against Boko Haram, particularly securing the release of some of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014, according to a readout released by Nigeria's presidency.
